Despite coming off an embarrassing 26-3 loss to the New York Giants at home, San Francisco is favored by seven points against the Seattle Seahawks at Candlestick Park on Thursday Night Football.
The San Francisco 49ers are favored by seven points against the Seattle Seahawks for Thursday Night Football, according to OddsShark, despite struggling on both sides of the ball against the New York Giants in a Week 6 26-3 blowout home loss.
The odds may have something to do with Seattle's 1-2 road record and that the 49ers have prevailed in each of the two teams' last three meetings.
San Francisco will try to maintain its status as the No. 1 home rushing defense and give Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch little room to work with. By playing well to the Seahawks' strengths, the Niners will be well-positioned to win. But the 49ers have to wary of Seattle's strong run defense as well, as the Seahawks have allowed just 70 yards per game on the ground. Frank Gore and the rest of the San Francisco running backs will have a tough task ahead.
The over-under is set at 38, and given the strength of these two NFC West defensive powerhouses, the money is leaning toward the under. Both teams are 4-2 against the spread, and this contest has a lot at stake for each team's prospects to take hold of the competitive division.
Also of note is that the 49ers responded with a 35-3 victory over the New York Jets following a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. It's clear that the handicappers have anticipated the 49ers responding in like fashion in a nationally televised game.
