Maurice Jones-Drew has left for the sideline with an apparent ankle injury, early in Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.
Getting his ankle taped, Jones-Drew has 408 rushing yards on the year, and one touchdown. In his absence the Jacksonville Jaguars turn to backup RB Rashad Jennings, who has run quite well, but in very limited time with just 13 carried for 76 yards in 2012.
The Jaguars and Maurice Jones-Drew have been engaged in a contract battle for the better part of this year. The veteran RB wants a long-term extension with the organization, while the team are expecting him to honor the five-year deal he signed back in 2009. Despite a holdout attempt through training camp, MJD rejoined the Jaguars in early September. A large reason for the unwillingness on Jacksonville's part to re-up a long term deal is due to injury fears, just like this one. Running backs take more abuse than most positions, and have a very short NFL lifespan.
No official updates out of Oakland at this time, however Maurice Jones-Drew remained on the sideline during the Jaguars' second offensive series.
