It seems all but official that Chris Cooley will sign with the Washington Redskins after an injury to their starting tight end Fred Davis, with the Washington Post reports that the fan favorite will return to his longtime team following a physical Monday.
Cooley has been working out and doing some television work in the Washington area since the Redskins released him on Aug. 28. The 30-year-old holds the franchise record for most receptions by a tight end, but only played five games due to injury last year and was down the depth chart when the team opted to release him following training camp. However, he made it clear he wasn't desperate to play for any random team and stated a desire to come back to the only team he's ever played for if possible.
It became possible when Davis tore his Achilles in the team's loss to the New York Giants Sunday, ending his season. Cooley's deal will apparently become official Monday.
