Carolina will be without its best cornerback as Chris Gamble was placed on the IR on Monday.

Carolina Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble's season was ended Monday as he was placed on the injured reserve, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The ninth-year veteran has been battling a shoulder injury recently and will need surgery. He first hurt his shoulder against Seattle on Oct. 7. He re-aggravated the injury and missed Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

"We played a couple of times without him and the young guys stepped up played pretty good," Panthers coach Ron Rivera told the Charlotte Observer. "We're going to lose a veteran player but we have some young guys who are playing some pretty good football so we'll go from there."

The Boston-native has played his entire career with the Panthers. Gamble recorded eight tackles and two pass deflections this season.

Panthers linebacker Jon Beason, who has been out for two games with a knee injury, remains unclear.

New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham did not play in Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Graham has been battling through a sprained ankle.

Saints coach Joe Vitt said Monday he's hopeful Graham will play this week, according to CBS Sports.

"We're going to test Jimmy Graham Wednesday, but right now we feel good about it," Vitt said. "We think he's got a good chance to be full go."

On Monday, Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano said defensive end Da'Quan Bowers has not been medically cleared to play. Bowers has been on the physically unable to perform list as he comes back from a torn Achilles tendon.
