NFL Week 8 picks: Patriots vs. Rams

Most NFL experts agree that the Rams won't be able to stop the Patriots and their high-powered offense. However, the folks over at CBS Sports apparently think the game will be a lot closer than people realize.

The 4-3 New England Patriots and 3-4 St. Louis Rams will meet on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London in a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVI.

The Patriots squeaked by the New York Jets, 29-26, last Sunday. New England blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and nearly lost, but placekicker Stephen Gostkowski hit a 43-yard field goal at the end of regulation and a 48-yarder in overtime to lift his team to victory

The Rams dropped their first home game of the season last Sunday, losing to the Green Bay Packers, 30-20. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers torched St. Louis' defense for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Rams quarterback Sam Bradford had a small amount of success moving the ball against Green Bay's porous defense, throwing for 255 yards and a touchdown.

New England is similar to Green Bay in the quarterback and defense categories, which could result in a high-scoring game. However, that doesn't necessarily mean the game will be close. The Rams haven't won away from home yet this season, and that fact isn't lost on the experts at ESPN, all of whom have picked the Patriots to win as of Wednesday evening.

Yahoo! Sports feels the same, with all three NFL writers taking New England. Interestingly enough, the analysts at CBS Sports are split right down the middle, with four picking the Patriots and four favoring the underdog Rams.
