Buccaneers vs. Vikings: Jared Allen knows how to fire up a crowd ... with a fight!

Stay connected with SB Nation

Jared Allen went the extra mile to rally the Vikings and their fans.

Jared Allen is mad, really mad. The Vikings defensive end engaged in a tete-a-tete with Buccaneers tackle Donald Penn in the third quarter. Most NFL tussles rarely get past the shoving match, but Allen and Penn were some 600 pounds of pure rage locking horns.

Watch two very large grown men exchange unpleasantness.

The pair got offsetting penalties -- Allen a facemask call and unnecessary roughness on Penn. It saved either team a loss of yardage, and Tampa Bay got another chance on 3rd-and-10. That's where it gets really fantastical.

Allen beat Penn with ease, cruising in like a pissed off freight train and bringing down quarterback Josh Freeman. The crowd in Minnesota went nuts for Allen's antics. Allen took the opportunity to fire up the crowd too, blood streaming down his face.

The Vikings are trailing 30-17, but if you buy into the idea of momentum, Allen's little show just might be a big turning point.

A fight and a sack, I believe that's two-thirds of the NFL's version of a Gordie Howe hat trick.
