Aaron Hernandez injury: Patriots TE out for Week 8

Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE

Aaron Hernandez had 79 receptions and 910 yards for the Patriots last season.

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez will not play on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, according to Adam Schefter.

Hernandez did not travel with the team to London, but many suspected that he could fly to England later in the week. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss reported that Hernandez "was expecting to be a new dad," and that was possibly what held him up.

Rather, Schefter reports that Hernandez's ankle was not responding to treatment, and that the tight end was struggling to cut. He will also have next week to recover, as the Patriots have their bye week.

So far this season, Hernandez has only 17 receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns. He injured his right ankle in a Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and missed games in Weeks 3-5.

In Hernandez's place, Daniel Fells and Michael Hoomanawanui are likely to see time at tight end against the Rams.
