The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets meet in a rematch of an overtime affair from earlier in the season with each team hoping to win to stay competitive in the AFC East hunt.
The New York Jets face a rematch with a team they beat in overtime earlier this season when they host the Miami Dolphins this Sunday.
Defense has been the Dolphins' calling card this season, as they have the eighth-best scoring defense in the league. Miami gave up 30 points in their first matchup of the year, getting blown out 30-10 by Houston, but since then, they've either won or been close in every game they played. Ryan Tannehill has been steady, if not great, in his first few NFL games, allowing the team to pull out 17-13 and 17-14 wins over Cincinnati and St. Louis. Before that, the Dolphins lost a pair of back-to-back games on overtime field goals, including a Nick Folk game-winner in their matchup with the Jets.
Meanwhile, the Jets have sprung back from early status as one of the league's laughingstocks with a few nice performances. They blew out Indianapolis, 35-9, thanks to a dominant performance by Shonn Greene, and fought back from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to send their matchup with the New England Patriots into overtime. However, there, Mark Sanchez and the offense sputtered after a 328-yard day from the oft-maligned quarterback.
Defense held the day in the last matchup between the squads, with Miami holding Sanchez to 21-for-45 passing and forcing him to toss two interceptions. But Tannehill also had 20 incompletions and threw a pick-six. The Dolphins missed a field goal in overtime and called a timeout before blocking a Folk field goal, allowing him to nail his second chance.
