NFC South injury report: Michael Bennett, Sean Witherspoon hurt in Week 8

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

Several key defensive contributors suffered injuries in Week 8.

With Week 8 now in the books, the teams of the NFC South are dealing with some additional injury issues.

The Atlanta Falcons lost linebacker Sean Witherspoon to an ankle injury in the fourth quarter, and he did not return to the game. Witherspoon has started all seven games for Atlanta this season and has 52 tackles, including three sacks. His status for Week 9 is unknown at this point. Atlanta also lost defensive tackle Vance Walker to a head injury.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Michael Bennett suffered an ankle injury late in his team's 36-17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings last Thursday, and while his status is uncertain, head coach Greg Schiano did not appear overly concerned about the injury after the game. Bennett leads the Bucs in sacks with five.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Courtney Roby left Sunday's game against Denver with a shoulder injury. Roby has appeared in all seven Saints games and has one reception for nine yards.

Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Dwan Edwards suffered an ankle injury on Sunday and will be more extensively evaluated on Monday. Edwards has started seven games in 2012 and has 26 tackles, including 4.5 sacks.
