Cardinals halfback leaves the field under his own power after an apparent shoulder injury.

Arizona Cardinals halfback Ryan Williams was injured after taking a massive hit in the fourth quarter of his team's game with the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday night. Williams broke a run into the defensive secondary early in the final quarter, when he was hammered by a Rams defender. Williams fell face first to the turf and laid motionless for some time afterward. Fortunately, Williams was able to leave the field under his own power, though he has not returned to action since the injury.

Williams became Arizona's starting halfback last week when Beanie Wells was added to the injured reserve list for an ongoing turf toe injury. In the absence of both Wells and Williams, Arizona will likely turn to Alfonso Smith, though the Cardinals have spent most of Thursday night in five-wide, empty set formations.

Arizona trails the St. Louis Rams 17-3 at time winds down in the fourth quarter.
