Ryan Kerrigan gave the Redskins an early 7-0 lead over the Falcons on Sunday with an incredible interception of Matt Ryan.
The Washington Redskins took a 7-0 lead over the Falcons on Sunday when defensive end Ryan Kerrigan intercepted an attempted screen pass by Matt Ryan. The Atlanta offensive line let Kerrigan through, setting up the screen, but the second-year star jumped in the air to pick off Ryan's lob pass. Kerrigan bobbled it once on his way down but quickly controlled it and was off to the races for the defensive touchdown. An animated gif of the play:
Kerrigan had a similar interception last season, picking off Eli Manning in a Week 1 welcome-to-the-NFL moment. He took that interception in for a pick-six as well.
The rush end will have to pick up the slack with both Adam Carriker and Brian Orakpo out for the season, and he's already made a huge impact this week. Mid way through the second quarter, the Skins defense is keeping the high-powered Falcons offense in-check, holding on to the 7-0 lead.
