The Redskins lost star rookie Robert Griffin III in the second half against the Falcons on Sunday, but his replacement, and fellow rookie, Kirk Cousins came on and gave Washington the lead with a rope to Santana Moss. The veteran wide receiver split two defenders and Cousins went over the top of the defense for a 77-yard touchdown to ignite the FedEx Field crowd. The touchdown momentarily put the Skins ahead of the undefeated Falcons, 17-14, with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. An animated gif of the play:
The Michigan State alum came on in the third quarter after Griffin took a shot to the head while sliding. Cousins is two of four for 81 yards in the second half so far. The catch was the second touchdown of the season for Moss, the veteran leader of the Skins wide receiving corps.
Cousins, a highly regarded quarterback prospect in his own right, emerged as the backup to Griffin at the end of the preseason. Rex Grossman, Washington's third quarterback, was inactive to start Sunday's Week 5 matchup.
