The Chargers are leading the Saints thanks to a Ryan Mathews touchdown.
The San Diego Chargers are extending a lead over the New Orleans Saints. Running back Ryan Mathews added to the total in the third quarter, scoring his first rushing touchdown of the season to make it 24-14.
Of course, he didn't just run in the end zone -- he added some flair to his 14-yard touchdown scramble. After picking off Drew Brees, the Chargers got the ball at the Saints' 25-yard line. Two plays later, Mathews took it around the left end for the score. On the way to the end zone, he leaped over a diving Saints defender and crash-landed in the end zone.
San Diego is finding more than enough room to run against the Saints. Mathews has 64 yards on nine carries to go with his touchdown. As a team, the Chargers have 95 rushing yards on a total of 15 carries from their running backs.
