An MRI later on Tuesday will reveal the extent of the knee injury suffered by the Texans linebacker.
The 2012 season may be over for the Texans' 2011 team MVP, as Houston fears that inside linebacker Brian Cushing may have suffered an ACL tear in a Monday night win over the Jets.
Early in the second quarter, Cushing was chasing down a running play by Bilal Powell when Jets guard Matt Slauson took out the linebacker with a low block that was seemingly from behind.
The Texans won't know for sure what the extent of the injury is until Cushing has an MRI on Tuesday, but they're fearing the worst, as reports surfaced immediately after the game that the team thought he had a torn ACL.
Cushing, the 2009 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, earned a Pro Bowl bid in his rookie season and has not returned, although he earned All-Pro honors in 2011. Through five games he had tallied 29 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble for the undefeated Texans.
