Instead, Talib will be eligible to play starting Sunday, Nov. 18, when the Patriots host the Indianapolis Colts:
NFL policy is that suspensions are for games, not bye weeks. So new Patriots CB Aqip Talib is not eligible to play until Nov. 18 vs. Indy.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 1, 2012
Talib is still serving his four-game suspension after failing a drug test in early October when he tested positive for Adderall without a prescription. He did not try to appeal the suspension.
The Patriots acquired Talib in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. The Patriots also received a seventh-round draft pick, while giving up a fourth rounder.
In four games this season, Talib has 20 tackles and four interceptions.
A first-round draft pick in 2008, Talib has spent the last five seasons with the Buccaneers. In 58 games in the NFL, Talib has 159 tackles and 18 interceptions.
