Colin Kaepernick has come into the game for San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was knocked down by the Rams' Jo-Lonn Dunbar and came out of the game with a possible head injury. It was later confirmed that he did suffer a concussion after he was last seen heading into the locker room with a trainer. Backup Colin Kaepernick is now in the game for San Francisco.

Smith was 7-for-8 for 72 yards, one touchdowns and no interceptions as the heavy favorites trail the Rams 14-7 in the second quarter. He has started 27 straight games for the 49ers, including playoff games.

Some Bay Area fans have been wanting to see Kaepernick, an early second round pick in 2011, take over for Smith to see what he can do and they're going to get their chance today. Kaepernick is 5-for-9 for 89 yards passing this season and has carried it 13 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns. He'll now try to lead the 49ers to a comeback victory.

His career-high for pass attempts in a game is seven.
