The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Josh McCown as Jay Cutler recovers from a concussion he suffered in Week 10.

The Chicago Bears signed free agent quarterback Josh McCown on Tuesday as Jay Cutler recovers from a concussion he suffered in the Bears 13-6 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Cutler was knocked out of the game against the Texans and was replaced by Jason Campbell. If Cutler is unable to start on Monday when the Bears take on the San Francisco 49ers, Campbell will start in his place and McCown will serve as the backup.

Chicago signed McCown last season to back up Caleb Hanie after Cutler broke his thumb in Week 11. McCown appeared in three games for the Bears, going 35-for-55 for 414 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. He spent the 2012 preseason with Chicago, but was cut on Aug. 31.

McCown was a third-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2002 NFL Draft out of Sam Houston State. Over the course of his NFL career he has thrown for 6,998 yards with 37 touchdowns and 44 interceptions.
