Brandon Meriweather injury: Redskins safety strains right knee, questionable to return

Geoff Burke-US PRESSWIRE

After making his season debut, Brandon Meriweather left Sunday's game with another knee injury.

Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather left Sunday's game in the second half with a sprained right knee, according to The Fan's Grant Paulsen.

Meriweather is questionable to return. Paulsen tweeted that Meriweather was "sprinting on the sideline to test the knee. Looks promising."

Before his injury, Meriweather had seven tackles, an interception and two pass deflections. Three of his tackles were solo.

Meriweather played his first game of the season with the Redskins on Sunday. He's been out all season because of sprained ligaments in his left knee.

Washington signed Meriweather, a first-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in 2007, to a two-year deal in March. In his only season with the Bears last year, Meriweather made 19 tackles in 11 games.

Meriweather played his first four seasons with the Patriots. He had one of his best seasons as a pro in 2009, making 52 tackles and recording five interceptions. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010.
