US PRESSWIRE
Peyton Manning is still Peyton Manning
Unfortunately for the San Diego Chargers, Peyton Manning is still Peyton Manning – and this afternoon in Denver he's showing them why.
With just over five minutes left in the third quarter, Manning threw his third touchdown of the day to increase his total to 192 yards passing, three touchdowns, and one interception, posting a QB rating of 92.0 on the day. With Denver's defense stifling Philip Rivers, holding him to 85 yards passing, Manning will get a lot more opportunities today to throw, especially in a close game.
These opportunities spring from an injury to Willis McGahee early in the game. Leaving with a knee injury, it has turned Denver's offense one-dimensional, which only benefits Peyton Manning. John Fox teams normally branch their pass off the run, relying on play action more than they've been able to. However, with three different receivers with touchdowns, Peyton is having no problem dealing with San Diego's pass rush.
