Raiders vs. Bengals 2012: Questionable calls ensure Oakland loss

The Oakland Raiders were outplayed most of Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but a string of questionable calls angered fans and thwarted any chance of a comeback.

The Oakland Raiders suffered an ugly 34-10 loss in Carson Palmer's homecoming against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals dominated most of the game, going up 24-0 before the Raiders finally got on the board in the third quarter.

Oakland did threaten to make it a game on several occasions in the fourth quarter, but several questionable calls foiled a possible comeback attempt. Levin Damien at SB Nation's Raiders blog Silver and Black Pride lamented the poor officiating:

So, the clipping took at least a field goal off the board, the "inadvertent" whistle took a touchdown off the board, and the scrap on the field resulted in two ejections, penalty yards, and another touchdown for the Bengals. That's at least a 17-point swing. And it would have at very least made the game a lot more interesting near the end. Instead of the face plant that it turned out to be.

There's no telling what the outcome would have been if these calls went the other way. In all likelihood, the Bengals probably still win the game because the deficit was so large. However, the game would have been much closer and at the very least there would have been some excitement for Raiders fans who have suffered through a disappointing season.

Oakland is now 3-8 and will host the Cleveland Browns in Week 13.
