Carolina jumped out to an early 14-3 lead behind two Cam Newton touchdown passes but went to half trailing the Eagles, 15-14, after two Alex Henery field goals and Bryce Brown's explosive 65-yard touchdown run.
The second half wasn't as successful for the Philadelphia Eagles. Bryce Brown found his way into the end zone for his second touchdown of the night, but he also fumbled twice, stifling any momentum the Eagles offense had produced.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Panthers looked to put the game away with on a Cam Newton 2-yard touchdown run with just under five minutes to play, but, of course, kicker Graham Gano missed the extra point to leave it a one-score game, 30-22. Unbelievably, that drive included three consecutive offsides penalties on Philadelphia.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles did what Gano could not, and put the game away by fumbling on the return. The Panthers recovered and slowly ran out the clock to claim their third victory of the season in perhaps the ugliest game of football the 2012 season will see.
Fantasy winners and losers
Monday produced two clear winners: Bryce Brown and Cam Newton.
Eagles running back Bryce Brown, filling in for the concussed LeSean McCoy, exploded Monday night and is certain to be selected from waiver wires nationwide come Tuesday. Brown rushed 19 times for 178 yards and two touchdowns, adding another 11 yards in receptions.
Cam Newton gave his best statistical performance of the season Monday night, throwing for 306 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 54 yards and another two touchdowns.
If watching good football was a fantasy game, then we're all losers.
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson left Monday's game in the first half with a sternum injury and did not return. No report was given regarding the seriousness of the injury.
Did they cover?
No. The Eagles entered the game favored by 0.5 points and lost by eight.
