McClain posted on Wednesday, "Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!" Shortly after that post, he added, "Well technically I am. But I'm mentally done. Just waiting on my papers."
The news comes as somewhat of a surprise, but the plot thickens as the Raiders have disputed his claims:
The Raiders say Rolando McClain is still on the team. His reps say they have not been notified. McClain, apparently, disagrees #weird— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 28, 2012
And then there's this from Raiders blogger Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times:
#Raiders spokesman confirms that MLB Rolando McClain is still on the team's 53-man roster.— Steve Corkran (@CorkOnTheNFL) November 28, 2012
McClain, a third-year pro out of Alabama, has started nine out of 11 games in 2012 after starting all but one game in his first two seasons with Oakland. Conventional wisdom was that he would not be brought back in by the Raiders after this season, but the move to cut him at this point would certainly be surprising. The earliest he could be waived from the 53-man roster is Thursday.
He has registered one sack, one forced fumble, and 37 tackles in 2012.
