The Washington Redskins have shown a daring nature in 2012, attempting to convert a fourth down on 12 separate occasions. Enter their Week 9 matchup with the Carolina Panthers, the Redskins were 9 for 10 on fourth-down attempts. On their second drive of the game, they pushed their attempts to the limit, coming up just short on the third attempt down near the Panthers goal line.
The first attempt came on fourth and 3 at the Panthers 38-yard line. Robert Griffin III completed a six-yard pass to wide receiver Joshua Morgan. On 4th and 1 at the Panthers' 10, fullback Darrel Young barreled through the line for a three yard gain to set up 1st and goal at the Panthers seven.
After two rushing attempts by Alfred Morris and a short pass to Brandon Banks, the Redskins faced fourth and goal at the Panthers 2. RGIII lined up in the shotgun with one running back to his right and two receivers wide left. As the GIF below illustrates, RGIII ran a designed QB keeper to his right, following Evan Royster. The Redskins were unable to open anything up, forcing RGIII down the line and eventually down.
