The Buccaneers' rookie is having a big day in Oakland.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked to bolster their running game when they elected to trade up in the 2012 draft to select Doug Martin, and thus far the decision seems to be a sage one by the Tampa Bay front office.
This afternoon's game between the Buccaneers and Raiders was thought to be a battle of running backs, with Martin and Darren McFadden meeting for the first time. Early in the third quarter it has been all about the Buccaneers rookie, as Doug Martin now has 174 yards on 17 carries, including a 45-yard touchdown run, and another huge 67-yard run. A rare combination of size and speed, he has shown an ability to hit the second level, then use an extremely effective stiff-arm to level his competition.
Fantasy owners should be overjoyed with his season so far, as the rookie running back is on pace to have over 1,000 yards rushing on the season, and could have more than ten touchdowns, depending on how the remainder of 2012 goes.
