SB Nation's Carolina Panthers blog, Cat Scratch Reader, reacts to the team's victory over the Washington Redskins
The Carolina Panthers were able to snap their prolonged five-game losing streak on Sunday and notch their second victory of the season, beating the Washington Redskins by the score of 21-13 in what was an impressive road victory.
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton led Carolina's offense, completing 13 of 23 passes for 201 yards and one touchdown. Perhaps as importantly, Newton did not throw an interception for the first time since Carolina's fifth game of the season.
Jaxon of SB Nation's Panthers blog, Cat Scratch Reader, acknowledges how well the Panthers played against what has been one of the top-scoring offensive units in all of football this year, writing that the team's defense was the main reason Carolina leaves Washington with a win.
Though the offense had a few remarkable plays and sustained two long, record setting drives it was the Panther defense that won this game. It was the first time in franchise history the Panthers sustained two TD drives of 90 plus yards in the same game. The defense held the NFL's 6th leading offense to 13 points and RG3 to 174 yards passing. Redskins RB Alfred Morris did have some success but the defense was able to come up big on 3rd or 4th down.
With two wins under their belt, the Panthers will now prepare to host the visiting Denver Broncos, who have won three straight games, on Sunday, Nov. 11.
