Kansas City Police confirmed to USA Today that the 3-month-old daughter of Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend is safe and in the custody of her grandmother. Both were reportedly in the residence when Belcher shot his girlfriend several times, killing her.
A KCPD spokesman said that the grandmother met police outside as they arrived on scene, telling them that a woman had just been shot. KC police captain David Lindaman told the Kansas City Star that Belcher's mom was visiting from New York, and she witnessed the shooting. She now has custody of her granddaughter as police continue to investigate the tragedy.
After the shooting at the residence, Belcher then drove to the nearby Chiefs facility at Arrowhead Stadium, where he took his own life.
