Falcons vs. Panthers 2012 reaction: Newton, offense get credit from Carolina faithful for victory

Grant Halverson

A season-making victory for the Panthers draws high praise from their fans as they credit Cam Newton, a ball-controlling offense and key defensive efforts.

Winning the coin toss for the first time this season certainly seemed like a sign of things to come for the Carolina Panthers as they scored an upset victory over the Atlanta Falcons, one which Panthers fans were quick to credit to the offense and quarterback Cam Newton.

Over at Cat Scratch Reader, the reaction was somewhat muted, but it was easy to see the joy the bloggers took in breaking down the Panthers' best win of the season.

This game was all Cam Newton and the Panthers ball hogging offense. The Panthers controlled the clock 23 minutes to 7 in the first half limiting the Falcons chances.

Newton's day was nothing short of "exceptional" for the bloggers, who lauded the offense overall. But once the Falcons got the ball, it was the defense that stepped up for the Panthers to seal the victory.

Once the Falcons pulled within 10 points in 4th quarter the defense stepped up again. ...

This win with a secondary at the end of DJ Campbell, Colin Jones,James Dockery, Josh Thomas and Captain Munnerlyn. Wow what a great win Panther fans!

Among the key contributors on defense, linebacker Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis received plenty of praise.

  • Uncle Luke Kuechly was again all over the field finishing with 11 tackles and 5 assists.
  • LB Thomas Davis had the defensive play of the day with the 4th down INT
