In the year of Legatron, Minnesota has The Blair Walsh Project
There has been a lot of talk this year about St. Louis Rams rookie kicker Greg Zuerlein, which is partly interesting only because there's been a lot of talk about a kicker, but the player on the other sideline today might be better. Blair Walsh, the rookie kicker for the Minnesota Vikings, was taken four picks after "Greg the Leg" aka "Legatron" aka "We have more than one nickname for a kicker?" but did not take a step back from Zuerlein today.
Walsh was 5 for 5 on kicks against the Rams on Sunday, including three field goals of 50+ yards. That makes Walsh 8 for 8 from 50 and deeper this season, tying the NFL record for most made field goals from that distance. Not far behind? Zuerlein is 7 for 12 from the same distance, but was 0 for 1 on Sunday, missing from 57.
While all the NFL talk for rookies is surrounded by Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson, I mean, HELLO -- we have a kicker battle that could last for 25 years!
