Despite failing to capitalize on all their opportunities, the San Francisco 49ers have a 17-3 lead on the New England Patriots.
Colin Kaepernick has only completed 8 of 15 passes, but two have been nice deep strikes for touchdowns, and he's run for 29 yards. Frank Gore is averaging 4.9 yards on 15 rushes to pace the 49ers. The league's top offense has been shut down by the league's top defense, as Tom Brady threw a pick on his team's first drive.
Kaepernick's two touchdowns beat the Patriots' weak secondary, hitting Randy Moss for 24 yards and looking Alfonzo Dennard off Delanie Walker before a 34-yard score.
The score could be more lopsided, as San Francisco has given the ball away twice in enemy territory. After getting the ball on the five-yard line following Brady's pick, they went backwards before a Walker fumble, and Kaepernick fumbled the snap on a fourth-and-one attempt. They got down to the three-yard line before running out of time at the end of the half. David Akers also missed a 39-yard field goal.
