On Wednesday, the NFL announced plans to live stream Super Bowl XLVII alongside its TV broadcast on CBS. Fans can watch on CBS, or they can access the game at NFL.com or CBSSports.com. Users of Verizon's NFL Mobile app can stream the game on their phones, as well.
The broadcast will be the same, but as is the usual case for online streaming, there will be some extra functionality, including more camera angles, in-game highlights, live statistics and "other interactive elements."
According to the release, this season's Pro Bowl and NBC's Wild Card Saturday doubleheader games will also be broadcast in the same manner, but on NBCSports.com as well as the official NFL.com site.
The NFL took the technology for a spin last year, streaming Super Bowl XLVI in a similar manner. It attracted 2.1 million users, making it the most-watched, single-game sports event ever online, according to data provided by Omniture and mDialog.
