US PRESSWIRE
Matt Schaub threw for two touchdowns and the Houston Texans defeated the Titans 24-10 to lock up a spot in the playoffs.
The Houston Texans jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, beating the Tennessee Titans, 24-10, on Sunday in Nashville, Tenn. With the win, the Texans clinch a playoff spot and improve to 11-1 on the year.
The Titans, who drop to 4-8, fall even further out of the postseason picture and will be looking to play spoiler for the remaining of the year.
Texans quarterback Matt Schaub set the tone early, hitting Lestar Jean with a 54-yard touchdown pass less than three minutes in to put Houston on the board. Following a Rob Bironas field goal for Tennessee, Schaub struck again, this time on a five-yard throw to James Casey, to make it 14-3.
Arian Foster piled on a score in the second quarter with a two-yard touchdown run following a Tim Dobbins interception, and it seemed as if the rout was on. Shayne Graham added a field goal in the third quarter, but that was the end of the scoring for Houston.
Not that the Texans needed any more, already up 24-3. Jake Locker threw a touchdown pass to Kenny Britt with 1:40 to play in the third to end the scoring for the day, sealing the 24-10 Houston win.
Fantasy studs/duds: If you own Schaub, you got pretty much what you'd expect: another solid performance. Schaub was 21-of-35 passing for 207 yards and two touchdowns, good for a 95.8 rating. Locker, on the other hand, did not do quite as well. He also had 21 completions, but it took 45 attempts. He also threw three interceptions to just one touchdown.
Odds/Gambling: The Texans were favored by seven, so they covered. The total was set at 48, however, which was not reached.
Injury info: It looks like the Texans were able to get out of this one without suffering any serious injuries. The Titans, however, were not so lucky. David Stewart fractured his leg early in the first quarter and needed to be carted off the field. His season is likely over. Michael Roos went down in the third quarter.
