Rory McIlroy makes no secret of being a huge U.K. futbol fan, but who knew the Northern Irishman followed U.S. football closely enough to know what a wretched job quarterback Mark Sanchez was doing for the New York Jets?
With Sanchez putting up his usual three interceptions and goose eggs on the scoreboard on Sunday, coach Rex Ryan finally heeded season-long pleas of J.E.T.S. fans begging for the benching of the first-round draft pick -- with a backup play-caller not named Tim Tebow.
Indeed, with everybody’s favorite genuflector inactive with broken ribs, Ryan called Greg McElroy’s number and Twitter virtually exploded with quips about the world’s best golfer with almost the same last name taking over the huddle for the New York footballers who are not defending world champs.
Golf's No.1 took time out from his Aspen vacation with girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki to weigh in via Twitter on the quarterback controversy brewing in the bowels of MetLife Stadium:
About time the Jets got a good QB!! Ha!

McElroy, by the way, led his team to a 7-6 win over the Cardinals.
