Atlanta has covered the spread in nine of their past 12 games against Detroit, and are hot after a big win over New York last weekend.
The Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions will get together for a rare Saturday night NFL matchup, and the Falcons are anywhere from a 3.5 point to a 4.5 point favorite on the road according to Oddsshark.com. The total point mark is set at 50.5.
Most of the evidence seems to indicate that the Falcons have the upper hand in this matchup. The Falcons are 8-5-1 against the spread this season, compared to the Lions' 4-9-1 record. The Falcons are 4-2-1 against the spread on the road, and the Lions are only 2-4 against the spread at home. In their past four matchups, Atlanta has covered the spread three times.
The numbers would also seem to indicate that the over may be the right play here. The Lions are giving up over 27 points per game this season, and the Falcons offense is humming coming off a 34-0 demolition of the New York Giants. The Lions offense is also capable of putting up a lot of points, and are averaging almost 24 points per game this season.
Kickoff from Ford Field is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 22.
