Ray Lewis injury: Ravens LB won't play Sunday vs. Giants

Patrick Smith

Despite practicing and feeling optimistic about returning from his triceps tear, Ray Lewis won't play against the New York Giants on Sunday.

The Baltimore Ravens announced that Ray Lewis won't be available to play against the New York Giants on Sunday after not being moved to the active roster.

Lewis and the Ravens were hoping he could return at some point before the end of the regular season and be available for the playoffs. The linebacker had practiced the last few weeks in an attempt to return.

Baltimore has gone 4-4 since Lewis suffered the triceps tear in a win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. The following week, the Ravens had their worst defensive performance, allowing 43 points in a loss to the Houston Texans. In its current three-game losing streak, Baltimore has given up more than 30 points in consecutive contests.

The Ravens defensive unit hasn't been at full strength all year with the absence of Terrell Suggs for the first six games. Suggs returned the week after Lewis was sidelined.

Prior to his injury, the 38-year-old Lewis recorded 57 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in his 17th season.
