Up next is the NFL record.
Calvin Johnson ran a simple crossing route in the first quarter of Saturday's Falcons-Lions game, catching the pass from Matthew Stafford and cruising 49 yards down the field. It looked so smooth, like so many of Megatron's receptions this season.
This one wasn't just another long catch and run like we've seen from him so often.
Calvin Johnson just set the #Lions single-season receiving record with a gain of 49. WOW!

This one was special because it broke the Lions franchise record for receiving yards in a season. Johnson was trailing Herman Moore's 1995 season of 1,986 yards by just 19 yards and crushed it through just one quarter on Saturday night.
Up next: Jerry Rice's NFL record 1,848 receiving yards.
Johnson was 167 yards shy of the record entering Saturday's game. Considering there's another game to be played, it seems as if it's a matter of when not if.
