The changes have begun for the New York Jets as outside linebackers coach Mike Smith will reportedly leave at the end of the season to take a job with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, according to the New York Daly News' Manish Mehta.
Texas Tech is Smith's alma mater and he will reportedly become the co-defensive coordinator under newly hired head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
In addition to returning to the school where he played in college, it is a reunion for Smith and Kingsbury. The two were college teammates in Lubbock.
There could be a number of changes coming for the Jets after a disappointing season. New York currently ranks 30th in the league in passing yards on offense after struggling to find an effective quarterback between Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow. The Jets' defense is currently 29th in the league in opponent rushing yards.
The Jets (6-8) finish out the regular season against the Buffalo Bills next weekend.
