Mohamed Massaquoi injury update: Browns WR placed on injured reserve

The Browns placed wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi on injured reserve on Monday.

Mohamed Massaquoi's injury-plagued 2012 season came to an end on Monday when the Cleveland Browns placed the receiver on injured reserve.

Massaquoi played in just nine games this season, missing time with both hamstring and knee injuries. His hurt hamstring cost him five games earlier in the season, while he missed Sunday's game and headed to injured reserve due to the issues with his knee. After starting 38 years during his first three seasons in the NFL, Massaquoi started just five games this season.

After being targeted at least 74 times in each of his first three seasons, Massaquoi was targeted just 33 times this year. He caught a career-low 17 passes for 254 yards and no touchdowns. Once thought to be a major part of the Browns' future, Massaquoi has now fallen behind Josh Gordon and Greg Little in the pecking order.

With the open roster spot, the Browns signed quarterback Thad Lewis from the practice squad. Lewis spent time as Cleveland's No. 3 quarterback earlier this season, but was waived from the active roster in October.
