Maurice Jones-Drew injury: Jaguars RB finally placed on IR

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been placed on injured reserve with a sprained foot.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Friday morning that they had placed star running back Maurice Jones-Drew on injured reserve with a foot injury.

Jones-Drew had started running again after injuring the foot back on Oct. 21 against the Oakland Raiders. However, the running back was unable to practice this week, so the Jaguars placed him on injured reserve in order to open up a roster spot for their regular season finale against the Tennessee Titans.

Prior to going down, Jones-Drew had rushed for 414 yards and one touchdown on 86 carries. He had also caught 14 passes for 86 yards and one score.

Without Jones-Drew, the Jaguars' rushing offense has been one of the worst in the NFL, ranking 30th in the league with 83.1 yards per game. Jones-Drew's 414 rushing yards leads the team, with Rashad Jennings' 283 yards coming in second on the team. Montell Owens and Richard Murphy took the bulk of the carries in Week 16 against the New England Patriots.
