Maybe the wind got ahold of this Alex Henery field goal attempt

USA TODAY Sports

Eagles kicker Alex Henery is making a statement on American society. Or he's just having a rough day.

I love shanked field goals. There's something so pure and untouched about a field goal kicker, all alone in his own world, coming on for a handful of plays per game. The spotlight is on him. It's his chance to make a difference and is perhaps the most individual effort in a largely team-based game. So when an attempt is missed -- badly -- it's tragically beautiful.

While Ricky from American Beauty claims his plastic bag is the most beautiful thing he's ever filmed, I'd argue that horribly missed field goals come pretty dang close.

There's a pretty good chance Eagles' kicker Alex Henery is making a Sam Mendes-like statement on American culture and social norms. Or perhaps he's just having a rough day.
