The Browns are looking for a new head coach, and Saints assistant Aaron Kromer is a candidate, according to reports.
New Orleans Saints offensive line coach Aaron Kromer is a candidate for the open Browns head coaching position, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Kromer is in his fifth season with the Saints, which included a six-game stint as head coach at the start of the 2012 season. He is one of four candidates on the Browns list, which Rapoport writes is made up of two college and two pro coaches.
As expected, the Browns made it official early Monday morning and fired Pat Shurmur after two seasons in Cleveland. Both Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert were likely to be let go, with new owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner now running things and wanting to start fresh with their own people.
Kromer's name has come up several times during coaching carousel season at both the NFL and college level. In an unenviable situation as interim coach this year, the Saints went 2-4 under his watch. Kromer is also an Ohio native.
