Lovie Smith's future in Chicago is 'not looking good,' according to report

Jonathan Daniel

The winds of change might be blowing in Chicago after a bitterly disappointing season.

The Chicago Bears might be looking for a new head coach with the news that Lovie Smith's chances of staying are 'not looking good', according to Ian Rapoport.

Smith had the Bears looking like one of the Super Bowl frontrunners in October and early November when the team was off to a 7-1 start. However, Chicago faltered mightily down the stretch, finishing 9-7 and missing the playoffs for the second-straight year.

It has been an uneven tenure for Smith in Chicago since taking over the job for the start of the 2004 season. The high-water mark was in 2006, when Smith guided Rex Grossman to a Super Bowl appearance against the Indianapolis Colts.

Since that time, Smith's Bears have only made one playoff appearance, losing in the 2010 NFC Championship Game to the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.

Overall, Smith has an 81-63 regular season record with the Bears.
