Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Philadelphia has asked permission to interview Falcons' defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, according to a report.

After firing Andy Reid on Monday, the Philadlephia Eagles have requested permission to interview Falcons' defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, according to a report from Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.

According Glazer's report, the Eagles plan to interview Nolan on Friday. Nolan and the Falcons are on a bye this week before playing in the divisional round next week. While Nolan would bring a defensive background to Philadelphia, he would also bring head coaching experience. He spent four seasons as the San Francisco 49ers head coach, compiling an 18-37 record.

Since being fired by San Francisco, Nolan has served as the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and now the Falcons. In Nolan's first season with Atlanta, the Falcons ranked fifth in the NFL in points per game allowed at 18.7. The Falcons allowed 21.9 points per game a season ago.

Nolan has some familiarity with the NFC East, having served as the New York Giants defensive coordinator from 1993-1996.
