Chargers president Dean Spanos said reports that he is planning to fire Norv Turner and A.J. Smith are "pure speculation."
San Diego Chargers president Dean Spanos disputed rumors that the team was planning to fire head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith at the end of the season.
In a statement released by the organization, Spanos said he is the only person who would make the final decision and he hasn't told anyone what he is expecting to do. Instead, Spanos said any rumors coming out now are pure speculation. Spanos said he will make his evaluations at the end of the season. The complete statement can be found below.
"There is only one person in this organization who will make those decisions and that's me, and I haven't shared my thoughts with anyone. I will make my evaluations at the end of the season. Anything coming out now - from sources or otherwise - is pure speculation."
His statement comes shortly after reports which said Spanos had decided to fire both Turner and Smith at the end of the season. This isn't the first time there have been reports that Spanos was planning to fire his head coach and general manager. Similar rumors circulated near the end of last season.
Turner and Smith's job security has come into question recently as the Chargers have dropped to 4-8 with a four-game losing streak.
