Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Nnamdi Asomugha suffered what at first appeared to be a very scary injury against the Buccaneers on Sunday. Fortunately, he was able to walk off the field, albeit with help from the Eagles' training staff.

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha left after suffering an injury in the second quarter of the team's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Asomugha sustained the injury while trying to break up a pass intended for Buccaneers tight end Dallas Clark. Asomugha was up-ended in mid-air and landed hard, and at an awkward angle, on his upper back.

Players and coaches crowded around Asomugha as he lay motionless for a short time before sitting up on his own. He continued to undergo evaluation from the training staff for several minutes while on the field before being helped to the sideline, and from there, to the locker room.

It is not yet known whether or not Asomugha will be able to return for the Eagles, who are locked in a scoreless tie with the Buccaneers midway through the second quarter. Asomugha, who is in his second season with the team, has racked up 40 tackles and an interception in 2012.
