Feb 10, 2012 - Former UCLA Bruins head coach Karl Dorrell has been hired as the new quarterbacks coach of the Houston Texans.
Dorrell served as the head football coach at UCLA from 2003 to 2007, compiling a record of 35–27. He led the Bruins to five bowl appearance in five seasons, but did not coach in the fifth after he was fired in December 2007. Dorrell spent the last four seasons as an assistant with the Miami Dolphins.
He also previously spent time with the Denver Broncos as their wide receivers’ coach. That Broncos staff included Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison and tight ends coach Brian Pariani.
Dorrell replaces Greg Knapp, who left to become the Oakland Raiders’ offensive coordinator after two years as Houston's QB coach.
Dorrell will now mentor a solid trio of quarterbacks that includes Matt Schaub, Matt Leinart and T.J. Yates.
