Rams Hire Les Snead As General Manager, According To Reports

The St. Louis Rams took quite a bit of time to hire a new general manager following their latest change in regime, but they're hopeful they found the right one after interviewing nine different candidates. Les Snead comes from the Atlanta Falcons, but he apparently got everything he wanted in making the move to St. Louis.

Snead had spent the previous 13 seasons with the Falcons -- the last few as Director of Player Personnel -- but was ready for a change, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

In the earliest days of the Rams' lengthy search for a general manager, Atlanta's Les Snead asked Kevin Demoff: "Do you think you can get Jeff Fisher? That's a guy I want to work for. That's the opportunity of a lifetime."

The Rams hired Fisher earlier this offseason, of course, and now Snead got his opportunity of a lifetime. Rams' executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff is hopeful that Snead's background will help as they attempt to turn St. Louis into a winning franchise.

"He's had a lot of responsibility at a place that's won a lot of games," Demoff said. "Snead comes from a place that had been up and down. He knows what it looks like. He knows what it's like to change the culture and grow in that culture."

Snead's expected to officially be announced by the club either Monday or Tuesday and will begin his duties before the NFL Combine later this month.

Rams Want To Interview Steelers' Omar Khan For GM Job

Add at least one more name to potential candidates for the St. Louis Rams' vacant general manager position: current Pittsburgh Steelers contract negotiator Omar Khan (via Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). The 35-year-old is considered one of the top salary-cap experts in the NFL and there are rumors that he's being groomed to work hand-in-hand with Bill Cowher, if he were to come out of retirement to work in the Steelers front office.

Currently, it's unclear whether or not the Steelers have granted the Rams permission to talk to Khan. Rams blog Turf Show Times suggests the only way the Steelers would be compelled to allow him interview would be if it was under the auspice Khan would be granted final say on roster decisions. Turf Show Times also pointed out that the Rams may not be inclined to turn over such broad powers:

COO Kevin Demoff has handled the cap and negotiations for the Rams, and has done quite well. Though cap space is tight this year, the team is looking at $30 million plus in cap space next year. Demoff also helped rearrange tight cap space in 2011 so the team could bring in a bevvy of free agent veterans.
