Feb 6, 2012 - Jason Tarver was named the Oakland Raiders new defensive coordinator on Monday, filling the last of the three main coordinator openings under new head coach Dennis Allen. Tarver was most recently the co-defensive coordinator at Stanford, but has spent 10 years in various coaching capacities with the San Francisco 49ers.
Under Tarver's direction, Stanford's defense was one of the best in the Pac-12. The Cardinal ranked first or second in six key areas, including rushing (1st, 84.4 yards per game), third-down conversion defense (1st, 31.1 percent) and scoring defense (2nd, 21.9 points per game).
Prior to joining Stanford, Tarver had most recently been the 49ers linebackers coach (2005-10). In 2009, the 49ers linebackers were one of the best units in the league, compiling 15 takeaways, 17.5 sacks and nine forced-fumbles while anchoring the sixth best defense in the league. He also played a key role in the development of such standout defensive players as Ahmad Brooks, Parys Haralson and Manny Lawson.
