Asante Samuel Trade Could Happen This Year

Asante Samuel's name is being floated around as a potential trade chip and the Eagles should receive offers if that's the case, especially if he's willing to restructure his contract.

April is a month on the NFL calendar when we see a decent amount of trades go down. The NFL draft is in April which means some teams will opt to trade a veteran player for a chance at more draft picks. One of those players we'll talk about this year will be Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel.

Samuel has a base salary in 2012 of $9.5 million, which would seem to be an obstacle in a possible trade. However, the Philly Inquirer reports that Samuel would be willing to restructure his contract if it meant pushing a trade through.

Samuel's agent tells Titansinsider.com that the Eagles are controlling any potential trade talks now.

"At this point, the Philadelphia Eagles are driving the train. They don't have to do anything," Shavers said. "They have always been very professional about their business and we would expect them to continue to be."

The Eagles, for their part, seem willing to get involved in a Samuel trade considering the presence of Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

"We [feel] like corner is a position of strength right now," Eagles' Howie Roseman said Tuesday. "But at the same time, when you talk to teams around the league, you're talking about maybe some positions that you have a strength and maybe that they have a weakness. You try to see if that's a match - whether that's cornerback or anywhere else."

Keep an eye on the Samuel situation. He's a prime candidate to be traded and the Eagles will likely have offers.
