The Miami Dolphins continue to do strange things with their quarterbacks. Less than two months after selecting Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Dolphins are using David Garrard, their offseason free agent pickup, as the team's starting quarterback in minicamp. Matt Moore is with the second team, and Tannehill is working with the third string.

Before you panic, not that you should over the Miami Dolphins' quarterback situation in mid-June, take the news with a healthy perspective. Garrard is a veteran with a solid track record. This is, more likely than not, all part of the efforts to drum up a little competition between the two younger quarterbacks.

It will be far more notable to see which quarterback is getting the starting reps when the preseason begins. Garrard will likely be a backup at that point, perhaps even a third quarterback. At 34, Garrard may be limited in what he can do for an NFL team. He missed all of last season with back problems after being released by the Jaguars.
