Good news, sports fans! We'll now be getting even more Chris Berman during the football season.
OK, maybe that's not good news for everyone, but ESPN PR did confirm on Wednesday that Berman will call the Chargers-Raiders Monday Night Football season opener, along with Trent Dilfer.
"I have worked with Boom for four years now and I've never been around someone who loves the NFL more than him," said Dilfer. "I firmly believe that his passion and mine for the game of football will translate to the audience."
Berman has never done the play-by-play for an NFL game, something he's wanted to do for a long time.
The audience may be there but not necessarily because Berman loves football so much. As John Ourand of Sports Business Journal suggests, the ratings may be up because some people just don't like Berman that much.
Quick prediction: Berman is such a polarizing figure, I bet ratings for his MNF game will be up (provided the game stays relatively close).

That prediction would result in high ratings for ESPN, which means they win.
